Growing Up

Growing up can be really hard. Growing up and learning to be a good friend can be even harder. Elementary school and all the way through college brought some powerful lessons; lessons about who I could trust, who I could count on, and, even more importantly, what kind of friend I could choose to be.

After being bullied, I realized that more than anything, I wanted to be a good friend. I never wanted anyone to feel the way bullying made me feel. I wanted real relationships that didn't take a whole lot of work.  I am so glad I came to that understanding early on. It has made a world of difference in my life.

I’m so thankful for my good friends who, no matter what, are kind and give of themselves. Without even thinking, my good friends call just to say hello. It's such a blessing to have friends who are happy for the good things in my life and that I can feel the same for them.

  1. I was bullied really badly in school, so bad that it made me really depressed and caused me a lot of emotional problems as I grew up. I graduated high school in 2003 and I'm a lot better but still not fully recovered. I thought for the longest time that I had no friends and that no one cared about me. Now I'm proud to say that I have some really great friends that are always there for me and I can tell anything to, and I'm so thankful to have them. I have made it my mission in life to be the best friend I can be and never make anyone feel the way I did. Great blog, I feel very strongly about this subject!!

  3. Cyndi, although I can never remember being bullied growing up, your blog made me think of true friends and my one true lifelong friend happens to be your sister, Debbie. Although we rarely see each other she is the one person I know I can call on no matter what and she would be there for me. Her sweet "thinking of you" cards show up in the mail unexpectedly at just the right time and most of time it's when I have thought about her that very day! So thank you for reminding me how lucky I am to have friends, especially my one lifelong friend and for making me check myself to make sure I am being the friend I need to be!

  5. Hey Cyndi! I must say that I really enjoy listening to your music! You have a beautiful voice! I am sorry to hear that you were bullied in school. I know that can be hard. I was bullied the all through my life in school while also battling some health problems. I wish I knew than what I know now. That is not to let a bully get in your head and make you feel bad about yourself. Also, I love to sing as well. I used to do a lot of singing for churches and I sang in a band for a benefit concert when I was about 16 years old. It was awesome I loved it! Singing has always been my passion.
